Exploring how intelligent products
fit into people’s lives.

Hey, I’m Tristan.

I’m an engineer at Apple, working on iPhone battery life and thermals—including as one of the youngest modeling leads on the recent iPhone Duo. My work connects models of how people use their devices with the engineering decisions that shape their experience. I’m interested in applied data science, agentic AI, and consumer hardware—especially where they meet.

Before Apple, I worked on Xbox prototype hardware at Microsoft, silicon design at Intel, and computer vision research for automated vehicles. I studied Electrical Engineering at UC San Diego, specializing in machine learning and controls. I was a Regents Scholar and the Class of ’24’s sole Electrical Engineering recipient of the Jacobs Scholarship, a merit-based full scholarship.

What I build
& explore.

Consumer behavior · Statistical learning

Understanding how people use technology.

How do real habits translate into a better product? At Apple, I model system power consumption to shape the iPhone experience. Earlier, I explored the relationship between customer usage and power policy at Xbox.

In practiceCorrelating real data to guide iPhone system experiences

Agentic experiences · On-device ML

Building useful AI experiences.

I’m interested in AI that helps people get things done, and how to bring it onto everyday devices. I have a particular interest in transforming previous engineering approaches to agentic workflows to improve efficiency and speed.

In practiceCreating RAG-style workflows that bring agentic tools to the forefront of engineering.

Probability

Making decisions under uncertainty.

Poker brings together a lot of what interests me: incomplete information, human behavior, and calculated risk. I built a poker analytics project to explore the game through simulation and opponent modeling.

In practiceMonte Carlo equity simulations and opponent historical data modeling to maximize EV.
